Warrior is a show that took my by surprise in 2019. We got a drama, action, love and history. All under the mighty Bruce Lee banner. Sharron Lee, daughter of Bruce Lee, is producer of the show, and says it’s based loosely on her father’s writings. Joining her in the production chair is Johnathan Tropper who made the brutally violent Banshee. If you haven’t seen Banshee, go and watch it! It stars Anthony Starr, you know? Homelander! Go watch it, after watching warrior of course! So, what’s it about?
Warrior follows Bruce Lee lookalike, Ah Sahm, played superbly by Andrew Koji. He’s arrived in San Francisco in the 1870s, and has joined a Tong, or gang. He’s also a martial arts prodigy, which means we get to watch kung fu! And holy heck do we. Adding to the mix is Joe Taslim, someone I got to interview after season 2 wrapped up. He’s been in quite a few things since, including Mortal Kombat as Sub Zero.
Warrior on, season 2 and 3
Of course, season 3 follows season 2, and we’re lucky it did. Because it was actually cancelled while looking for a new channel. It was on Cinemax as an original show, but with the merging of parent companies, ceased production after Warrior’s second season. Many of the cast didn’t know what was going to happen. Joe, Olivia Cheng and Dean Jagger all expressed concern. Thankfully the fans won, and Warrior is now on HBO Max. Let’s hope it stays there, because this story is by no means finished.
I was lucky enough to be granted access to all of season 3, and I can tell you it’s superb. It works on developing characters that they worked on in season 2, but also make it far more intimate. We also get a new character played by legendary Mark Dacascos. His character, Kong Pak, is head of a now merged clan, and he’s as deadly with his fists as he is charming with his… Um, cooking?
I’ll tell you the rest in the video below.
All the series and all the movies couldn't put society back together again.
