Futurama is back, baby! With 20 new episodes and almost all the cast members. I say almost as Bender (and some others) voice actor John DiMaggio seems to be causing some trouble in negotiations. All other cast members have signed up, but not John. Not only that, but he’s getting his fan base to put pressure on the producers, with some calling for boycotts.
Now I totally get bargaining to get the best deal, but this sounds a bit much. Getting your fans to ‘boycott’ a series because you cannot come to a deal with a company is a bit to manipulative for my taste. I mean John is an absolute legend, but it’s seems off everyone else is on board… And he isn’t…
Of course we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a publicity stunt to ramp up interest. Not that Futurama, a cult classic, needs it!
For the 4 of you, and Trevor, who don’t know what Futurama is, this from wiki:
Futurama is an American animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening that aired on Fox from March 28, 1999, to August 10, 2003, and on Comedy Central from March 23, 2008, to September 4, 2013.
I loved the show so much, so I’ll be watching the new one, even if Hulu doesn’t benderover backwards to accommodate some actors. Not sorry!
I cannot wait for this. Similar shows, like Rick and Morty, have shown that they can return and remain brilliant. I mean the ending of Rick and Morty’s last season was phenomenal. What do you think? Are you excited about the return of Futurama, even if John doesn’t come back?
Other voice actors who will be returning will include:
- Billy West
- Katey Sagal
- Tress MacNeille
- Maurice LaMarche
- Phil LaMarr
- Lauren Tom
- David Herman
All the series and all the movies couldn't put society back together again.
